Annual fundraiser that honors hospital caregivers at Howard County General Hospital

Heroes in Health Care, the annual fundraiser that honors hospital caregivers at Howard County General Hospital, attracted 350 people and raised $200,000.

Patti Caplan, a heart attack survivor who retired after 25 years as director of public relations for the Howard County Public Schools in 2012, shared her story. Zack Shariff and Louann Magi-Shariff were the honorary co-chairs.

Tickets were $125 a person for the cocktail attire event that was held at the Kossiakoff Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. The event included a live band performance from The Junkyard Saints.

Stunning in silver
Heroes in Health Care was bittersweet for board member Aimee DeCamillo, a Glenelg resident who was in the process of relocating to Nashville in a couple of weeks.

“Most of my clutches are in my home in Tennessee,” the 44-year-old mother of three boys said.

DeCamillo, the former head of Retirement Plan Services at T. Rowe Price who will now be the chief commercial officer and president of Jackson National Life Distributors LLC in Tennessee, had nothing to worry about at the annual fundraiser as she turned heads in a stunning color-block black and metallic silver gown.

“When I bought this dress I had this event in mind,” she said. “I knew it would be perfect for other events. It’s chiffon and versatile by season.” DeCamillo was immediately drawn to the dress.

“It was comfortable and unique,” she said. “I liked the color block.”

This was DeCamillo’s second time attending the event in her three years of being on the board.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize those who serve the community,” she said. “It’s fantastic to hear about all the good work they’ve done.”
