Happy hosts and hostesses

Gifts for entertaining are always welcome

There are people who throw parties, and people who go to parties. If you love to host, you know how wonderful it is to receive a gift that makes your celebrations more beautiful, easier or unexpected. If you love to go to a great event, bringing the host and hostess a holiday gift is the perfect way to say thank you and enhance the experience for them – and you.

An elegant tablecloth, refined glassware, a locally handcrafted item, fixings for a delicious cocktail or dessert, are just a few of the ways to honor your host, or give a gift during the holidays that says you’ve noticed the care they take with their soirees, shindigs and socials. It takes a special person to open their home year after year, and the holidays are the perfect time to gather together and show your appreciation.

These practical, yet handsome, marble cutting boards with copper letter inlay are ideal for a cheese display. The personal touch of the initial, and the handy hammered metal spreader, which is included, lend this item a personal touch. Available at local retailer Su Casa, located in Fells Point, Bethany Beach and Ellicott City.

These whimsical little fellas from CB2 are a cute addition to any holiday table. They add a bit of charm and sparkle, and are practical too. Molded of stoneware and dipped in bronze metallic, a great gift for a young couple hosting their first holidays.

These trendy platters, done in glazed ceramic, embrace the current style of rustic minimalism, popular in housewares right now. Each one is slightly different because each is handcrafted. Available in pink, cream and a muted Kelly green, they are an ideal gift for a hostess because serving dishes are essential to any good party, and it’s often hard to come by a useful style that is still pretty enough to be displayed all year long. This version from Anthropologie does just that.

Elegant table linens are a lovely throwback to a time when parties were fancier affairs, and tables were set with china and crystal. This beautiful option from Parisian company Yves Delorme is available in three colors (the pommard is shown) and two sizes. Made of jacquard, cotton and linen, it is a gorgeous gift for that friend that loves a classic dinner party. Available at local Yves Delorme locations in Baltimore, Annapolis and Bethesda.

Yummy food gifts are always a pleasure. This trio of tasty toppings from small Brooklyn artisanal brand Bushwick Kitchen, hits all the right notes for a gift. It’s unique but widely available; it’s delicious; and it can be used in a cocktail. The Trees Knees spicy maple is a maple syrup infused with chiles, the coffee maple is maple drunk on Stumptown coffee, and the gingerbread maple is all the holiday feels in one bottle. Fun, original, useful. Available online and at various cookery and gourmet shops in the Baltimore area.

Maryland winery Linganore Winecellars proudly offers membership to its Linganore Wine Club. Membership can be bought for yourself or gifted to someone, and includes quarterly shipments of three curated wines, tasting notes, recipes and food pairing ideas, 15 percent off all wine purchases and 20 percent off purchases of 12 bottles or more. Complimentary tastings for members and a guest, during any visit to the winery, and other insider access to special wines and new releases, make this a gift any oenophile would love.
