UMBC’s Community Leadership Program
UMBC’s Community Leadership program prepares aspiring and practicing leaders with the skills and experience needed to enact transformative social change. The interdisciplinary program emphasizes highly applied coursework, relationship building, and hands-on practical experiences, all essential for developing strong leadership skills.

Employed students find courses offered in the evening at UMBC and in Baltimore City, and they choose from a nine-course master’s in professional studies: community leadership program and a four-course graduate certificate in community leadership.

The structure of the program provides immersive experiential learning opportunities in several pathways selected based on student interest. These include urban studies; non-profits/social sector; and social entrepreneurship. Courses are taught by community leaders. A total of 30 credit hours are required to complete the master’s degree and 12 credit hours to earn a certificate.
